Shooting incident linked to fighting in park

a 56-year-old man was injured after being shot in the foot during a disturbance in a park in the Chapeltown area of Leeds.

The incident happened in the park that runs beside Savile Drive, in Chapeltown, at 7.20pm on Tuesday.

Yesterday detectives appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

West Yorkshire Police said they were called to the scene following reports that groups of men were fighting there.

When officers arrived they discovered the men had already dispersed.

A short time later the police were told that a 56-year-old man had appeared at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot.

Officers believe the incident in which the victim was shot and the disturbance on Savile Drive are linked.

The man remained in hospital yesterday but detectives said his injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

An area around the park and the junction between Chapeltown Road and Savile Drive remained cordoned off yesterday while forensic examinations of the scene continued.

The police asked anyone with information is asked to contact Stainbeck CID on 0845 606 0606.

Officers said yesterday that no arrests had so far been made in connection with the incident.
