Shop owner faces probe over swastika t-shirts

A SHOP owner in York city centre is being investigated by police after putting t-shirts emblazoned with swastikas on display in his window.

Outraged shopper Patricia Jones contacted officers after she saw the 6.95 shirts, one of which featured a large picture of the Hoheitszeichen – an eagle carrying a white swastika on its talons – and another bearing a cartoon of Adolf Hitler with the slogan "Hitler's European Tour", hanging in the window of Blue Moon Trading.

She said: "What kind of human being would want to sell or buy them?

"I hope that the citizens of York are as disgusted as I am - it is just so insulting.

Police have now passed the case to the Crown Prosecution Service who will decide if criminal charges are brought against shop owner Stuart Sykes.

Mr Sykes said: "The law is very simple. They can be sold in any country in the world except Germany."
