Shop shut for selling booze to children

AN OFF-licence has now reopened after being temporarily closed down by trading standards officials for “persistently” selling alcohol to children.

Doncaster Council imposed a three-day closure notice on the Bargain Booze in Bentley High Street after the licence holder, Alex Chacko, accepted the notice as an alternative to being prosecuted.

Coun Cynthia Ransome from Doncaster Council said yesterday that there is a “strong link between alcohol and anti-social behaviour” .

She added: “The closure notice is designed to be a quick and effective response in the circumstances where licensed premises have persistently sold alcohol to underage children, whilst avenues of further advice and assistance are explored with a view to minimising the likelihood of any repetition of events.”
