Shopacheck gets ready to shed jobs

AROUND 75 jobs are likely to go at part of embattled sub-prime lender Cattles.

The board of Cattles yesterday announced planned changes at its Shopacheck business, which helps people with poor credit ratings to get loans.

It said: "The management of Shopacheck has concluded that it can remove certain layers of management and support functions.

"Shopacheck will now enter into a consultation process with staff affected by the proposals, of whom 290 will today receive notice that they are at risk of redundancy."

It is expected that only 75 of them will go as people will be offered new roles "within a flatter organisational structure". It is not known where the job cuts will be made.

Batley-based Cattles lent money to people with poor credit ratings but last year found a huge accounting failure hiding a mountain of bad debts. It is focusing on clawing back loans to repay creditors.
