Shopper bags payout over fall in supermarket

A SHOPPER has been awarded £3,775 in compensation after falling over in a Hull supermarket.

Cindy Thompson, 24, fell over some metal studs which had been left following repairs to the floor in the Asda store in Mount Pleasant on October 6 last year.

She carried on shopping but the store’s first aid team were called after she developed severe pain in her ankle, and an examination in hospital revealed she had torn a ligament.

She has now been compensated for the pain and suffering she experienced.

Ms Thompson said: “I was walking around the store when I suddenly stumbled and fell forward onto my trolley. A few minutes later I experienced sudden sharp pain in my ankle and foot and so I alerted a member of staff. The staff were extremely helpful and quickly sat me down and called the manager and a first aider. I was taken to hospital and told I’d torn a ligament in my foot.

“It turned out that some metal studs had been mistakenly left in place after part of the floor had been repaired. The area was quickly cordoned off to protect other shoppers.”

No-one at Asda was available for comment.
