Shots fired in West Yorkshire street

Reports of gunfire in a Huddersfield street have sparked a police appeal.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police were called over reports that shots were fired in Chestnut Street today just after 1am.

Callers reported seeing a number of males in the street, including one with a gun.

A police helicopter, armed officers and police dogs were dispatched but no arrests were made.

Nobody is believed to have been injured.

Detective Inspector George Bardell, from West Yorkshire Police, said: “We are conducting enquiries into this reported incident this morning and would like to speak to anyone who saw suspicious behaviour between 12am and 1am in the Chestnut Street area, including Woodhouse Hill and Riddings Road. ”
