Sick children share in fun

YOUNGSTERS being treated at the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield won’t have to miss out on the fun of the Olympic torch relay as it passes through the city.

A street party is being held there for patients, staff and families to welcome the flame on Monday.

For one young patient, the relay experience will be even more special.

Cystic fibrosis sufferer Olivia Ford, 15, has been chosen to carry the torch through Chesterfield on June 29.

The teenager from Dronfield, who also has diabetes and liver disease, was nominated by her mum Sarah for her positive, inspiring outlook on life.

She said: “I can’t believe I will get to carry the Olympic torch, it’s a once in a life time opportunity. I really want to run with the torch so I have been going jogging with my mum to make sure I’m ready for it.”

Olivia has been treated at the hospital since she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at six weeks.
