Sick elderly war veteran loses life savings in raid

Robbers held down a chronically ill war veteran and snatched his life savings.

Hugh Pollock, 86, of Leeds, who has lung disease, asthma and angina, was watching television when two men burst into his flat, grabbed him and demanded money.

The pensioner was an Argyll and Sutherland Highlander infantryman who suffered shrapnel wounds fighting in the the Second World War.

He managed to fell one of the raiders with his walking stick as they fled his flat in Holbeck, Leeds, after the robbery at 2.45pm on Sunday. The robber got back up and escaped.

Mr Pollock said: “One got me from behind and pulled me against the settee back, while the other man took my two wallets containing my £930 and bank card.”

“It’s no good me getting upset and annoyed, but those men were just cowards and parasites,” he added. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 6060606.
