Singer Carrack joins Clipper festivities

Singer-songwriter Paul Carrack will be performing alongside Amy Winehouse's father Mitch and saxophonist Julian Smith at the Clipper festivities on Saturday.

The Sheffield vocalist, fresh from New York where he was performing at Ringo Starr's 70th birthday bash, will be appearing on the Clipper stage at 5pm.

Up to 100,000 people are expected to visit Hull city centre during the weekend to welcome back the Clipper fleet, following their 35,000-mile journey. Crowds are expected to line the banks of the Humber to watch the fleet take part in the final John Harrison Race between King George Dock and St Andrew's Quay at 9.30am, with the Red Devils parachute team following an hour later, before the yachts start locking in.

Coun John Robinson said: "This is going to be a fantastic event welcoming returning crews, friends, families and visitors to a city centre full of activity. There will be something for everyone to enjoy and it will create another massive buzz for Hull after last year's successful race start.

"The acts are the icing on the cake and I am delighted that we have been able to attract them to the city."
