Six friends share £10m Lotto jackpot

SIX members of a Lottery syndicate were celebrating today after scooping a £10m jackpot.

The group, made up of friends who used to meet at the Irish Centre in Newcastle city centre, regularly play the Lottery.

They won the 10,257,210 Lotto Double Rollover jackpot on New Year's Eve after they used their EuroMillions winnings from the week before to buy five lucky dip tickets

Pat Dale, 45, from Newcastle, said: "I got a phone call on New Year's Eve to say we had won on Lotto and I didn't believe it.

"Things like this never happen to us. I then called a friend in the syndicate to tell her and she didn't believe it either."

She added: "I don't think it has sunk in yet for any of us."

Pat, who runs her own catering business, is hoping to buy a plot of land in the countryside around Newcastle and build her own home.

Another member of the syndicate, Julie McGregor, 40, is also planning how to spend her new found wealth.

Mrs McGregor, who is partially sighted, is hoping she may be able to use some of her winnings to have an operation to improve her vision.
