Skate park 'to be regional flagship'

WORK to begin extending a skateboard park in Hebden Bridge should start next year after a further £50,000 was secured for the project.

Environmental charity Groundworks UK has given Friends of Calderdale Holmes Park the money, bringing the total promised for the work to 129,000.

This includes 95,000 from Sport England, 25,000 from the Youth Opportunities Fund, 5,000 from the Community Foundation for Calderdale and 4,000 from Hebden Royd Town Council.

Councillor Lesley Jones said: "This news represents the culmination of a lot of hard work and support by many people and organisations which is appreciated. The extension project will provide a much-needed improvement for the young people of Hebden Royd and will be a flagship skate park for the whole of Calderdale."

Lorraine Daber, of Calderdale's young people's service, said: "This has been a tremendous effort from both adults and young people and shows what can be achieved when people work together for the good of their communities. We are delighted that funding is almost complete."
