SKY is moving part of its digital team out of Yorkshire to be closer to its Sky Sports production in London.
The media giant, which said it employs 49 people in its digital sports media division in the city, told staff last week that it plans to move some members of the team to its West London headquarters.
It declined to tell the Yorkshire Post how many jobs were affected.
The digital team is made up of staff including journalists, technical staff and a radio team. A member of staff told the Yorkshire Post that everyone except the technical team was affected.
He said: “It’s devastating. It came out of the blue last week. A lot of staff here have young families and can’t just relocate to London.”
A Sky spokesman said: “We are proposing to move some of the digital team currently based in Leeds to our West London headquarters, to be closer to Sky Sports production.
“We aim to be the destination of choice for sports fans and by integrating our digital service into Sky Sports production, we can provide a more consistent service that makes the most of Sky Sports assets. We are currently talking to staff about this.”
Sky employs over 1,100 people in Leeds.
