Skydiving mother raises money for hospital which treats her two sons

A MOTHER has raised hundreds of pounds for the hospital which helps her two sons through a 10,000ft skydive.

Selina Blenkin, from Farnley, Leeds, made the leap for Leeds Children's Hospital at the Skydive GB centre at Bridlington Airfield.

The 28-year-old accounts clerk was joined by colleague Abigail Tyer, 20, for the jump to raise money for the hospital where her two sons receive treatment for a rare metabolic disorder. Jack, six, and Jorge, two, are patients at the children's renal ward.

The boys have cystinuria, a condition which affects the intestines and kidneys, preventing amino acids from leaving the body.

Their mother said: "It can be very traumatic for young children when they have to visit hospital and we really appreciate the work of the brilliant hospital staff to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

"I've always wanted to skydive and thought this would be a good way to raise some money for the hospital and fulfil a long-standing ambition. Abigail was keen to take part as well, so we decided to go for it."

The jump raised 911 for the hospital which officially opened this year. This month Leeds Children's Hospital launched an appeal to raise funds for toys, games and colourful artworks at the newly-established wing inside Leeds General Infirmary.
