POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a smash and grab raid on an Ilkley jewellers to come forward.

Two people wearing balaclavas used a lump hammer to smash the window of the store, in Brook Street, before stealing several rings from the display,

An old black car, parked near the Ilkley Playhouse, is thought to be connected to the raid which happened at around 11am.

Detective Constable Tom Levitt, of Bradford CID, said; “I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and may have seen or heard anything or anyone acting suspiciously, or who may have seen the incident itself or suspects fleeing the scene to come forward to the police.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have seen or be able to offer further information about the black vehicle that was seen parked up near to the playhouse around the time of the robbery to speak to police.

“It is believed a number of people may have captured some the incident on their mobile and I would also ask they bring that forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
