Smash referred to police watchdog

A CRASH which killed a man in Stokesley has been referred to the police watchdog.

North Yorkshire Police said it had referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after it became clear a vehicle matching the description of the Range Rover was involved in two earlier incidents on Saturday morning.

Douglas Scott Robertson, 27, was killed as he walked along North Road at about 12.20pm on Saturday. Two people, a youth aged 15 and a man aged 18, have been charged in connection with the collision. A man, aged 23, was in police custody yesterday and another man is due at court at a later date charged with obstructing the police.
