Snooker legend to help raise funds

FORMER world snooker champion Dennis Taylor has been signed up by the Mayor of Scarborough for a major fund-raising drive for sports organisations.

The dinner will feature Mr Taylor as guest speaker alongside an appearance by stand-up comedian Martin Golds.

The Mayor’s civic office is working with international swimming coach and 2012 Olympics organiser, Sam Greetham, and local business trader, Steve Hamblett, to arrange the one-off event.

Coun Blackburn said: “I am extremely pleased to be involved in this event as my mayoral theme for my year in office is sports development and I am very keen to bring as many sporting clubs and organisations as possible together.”

A record 18.5m television viewers watched Mr Taylor beat Steve Davis in the 1985 Snooker World Championships after famously sinking the final black.

Tickets cost £35 for the fund-raising dinner on March 10, and more details are available from civic officer Irene Webster on 01723 232311.
