Snow fails to halt demolition

Despite wintry scenes demolition of two streets in Goole continues apace.

Yesterday the diggers were making inroads into the last few houses on Phoenix Street, with preparation works starting on nearby Richard Cooper Street, including disconnecting utilities and removing any asbestos.

In all 117 terraced houses are being cleared to make way for a development of 59 houses, including 19 affordable homes by Peter Ward Homes. The go-ahead was finally given this year after a public inquiry sparked by the objections of two private landlords.

East Riding Council said proposals for the site were being developed with Peter Ward Homes, adding: 'The demolition will reduce the potential for crime, vandalism and antisocial behaviour – issues which have plagued the area for many years.'
