Society bonus for air ambulance

MORE than £140,000 has been donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by the Barnsley Building Society, which has raised the cash through its Saving Saves Lives bank account.

Since being launched four years ago, the account has raised more than £400,000 for the charity, during which time the air ambulance has flown more than 3,800 patients to hospital at a cost of £7,200 per day.

Launched in 2007, the Saving Saves Lives account ensures the Yorkshire Air Ambulance receives the equivalent of one per cent of the average balances on the account, calculated throughout the year.

Paul Gowland, fundraising director at the charity, said: “The £400,000 raised through the Saving Saves Lives account over the last three years has covered the cost of nearly 140 missions the Yorkshire Air Ambulance have flown – meaning Barnsley Building Society savers have helped us extend our golden lifeline across the region.”

Rachel Gladman from the building society said she was “delighted” by the popularity of the bank account.
