The Rifles inherited the honour following their formation through the amalgamation of the Yorkshire Light Infantry – who originally inherited the freedom in 1972 – with three other infantry regiments in 2007.

The parade will also mark the regiment’s homecoming after its recent return from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The parade will arrive in Northgate at 11.10am and soldiers will march through the city via Kirkgate and Westmorland Street. They will return to Northgate at 12.05pm and will march up Kirkgate to Westgate.
