Solo adventurer to speak about Antarctic adventure

ADVENTURER Felicity Aston, who skied solo and unaided to the South Pole last month, is coming to Hull to talk about her achievement.

The 33-year-old British explorer, who is currently attempting to become the first woman to ski solo across Antarctica, will be speaking at the TEDx event at Hull Truck Theatre in February – just days after she is forecast to return to the UK.

Felicity reached the South Pole last month and is continuing to slog her way on her 1700km journey towards Hercules Inlet. If she completes the journey in late January as planned, she will also set a record for the longest solo polar expedition by a woman, at about 70 days

TED – which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design – is an international non-profit body dedicated to spreading ideas and stimulating dialogue at a local-community level via TEDx events.

TEDx Hull, which has been organised by local business people John Royle of Glanton and Hannah Thoresby and Helen Bissett of branding and communications agency H&H, is the first time in the organisation’s near 30-year-history it has come to East Yorkshire.

Felicity will be joined by a host of other speakers, including among others science fiction writer Adam Roberts, astrobiologist Dr Lewis Dartnell and ultra-endurance runner Robin Harvie.

Locals, playwright Dave Windass and Andy Kirkpatrick, regarded as one of the world’s foremost mountain climbers, will also be taking to the stage. One hundred tickets will go on sale on January 23, for the event on February 21.
