South Bay-watch as medics patrol beach

Nurse Nikki Milner on Scarborough's South Bay beach with lifeguards Tim Machon and David Norman as a team of nurses go on patrol over the summer holidays.

The seven-strong team will be on hand to examine and treat people for cuts, sprains, sunburn or jellyfish stings or refer them to the resort's GP drop-in centre or Scarborough Hospital.

Ms Milner, a former A&E nurse who is running the initiative, said: "The last thing people want to do when they have a problem is to wander off to look for the hospital – especially if they are not familiar with the town."

They are stationed on the West Pier near the lifeboat station from 10am-5pm every day until September 3.
