Spa treatment in special league

The women-only Waterfall Spa in Leeds is becoming quite a celeb hangout.

Corrie's Jane Danson held her hen party there, and, say spa staff, the Manchester United WAGs booked the whole spa out for a day, Hollyoaks's Jessica Fox has regular facials there and England cricketer Michael Vaughan's wife Nichola is a fan of the Indian head massage.

I went along to find out why and found a chic, modern and rather ritzy spa centred round the therapeutic Hydrotherapy Pool, with Tropicarium and Aromatherapy Steam Room and the Experience Shower in areas off it. The chill-out zone is very special, with huge round boudoir beds concealed behind bead curtains, all in a tranquil, darkened room. There is also a small bar and restaurant which serves healthy dishes and champagne.

I tried a Cucumber and Rose Facial, a nourishing treatment that puts the life back into your skin, using Waterfall's Complete Cleansing Balm, refreshing Rose Spritzer, Face Polish and Blackcurrant Seed Oil Mask.

It includes an incredible head massage, just the thing for evaporating worldly troubles, if only for a while – it lasts an hour and five minutes and costs 75. I can also recommend the Heaven Essence Aromatherapy Massage – a deeply relaxing, stress-relieving massage that gets to the root of niggling aches and pains (tell your therapist whether you prefer light, firm or medium handling). Waterfall's own blend of essential oils are used in the treatment as the therapist alters the pressure depending on your body's muscles. It lasts an hour and five minutes and also costs 75. Other treatments include the Rose, Raspberry and Cocoa Facial that leaves skin glowing and a tasty-sounding Coconut Sugar Body Polish designed to nourish skin. Waterfall has just introduced a new Treatment Anytime menu, a drop-in spa service with a menu of 37 treatments, starting from 25, so visitors can fit in a little me-time in their lunch hour or after shopping. It was nominated as one of the UK's Best Day Spas by the Professional Beauty Awards in 2007. Day Spa packages start from 75.
