SPECIAL REPORT: National Student Drama Festival in Scarborough

IN THIS special report, we take you behind the scenes at the National Student Drama Festival.

Yorkshire director Dominic Leclerc's workshop on acting and directing for television sees him use the real life example of Shameless to inspire students. He then tells us about his own experience of NSDF.

Over dinner we catch up with Ruth Carney and Stephanie Street. Both selectors for NSDF, we last spoke to the pair when they worked together on the sell-out show Sisters, which was in Sheffield last month.

After a late performance, the fun and games continue in the Noises Off office - Noises Off is the daily newspaper produced at the festival and a place where people gather for impromptu performances. It was also where we briefly caught up with playwright Mark Ravenhill, who was enjoying the performances.

The following day saw Last Orders. Compered by Stephanie Street and Chris Thorpe, of Unlimited Theatre, it was a chance for performers to show experimental work on the stage of the SJT in front of an audience.

Performers included 'Greg' performing a monologue, 'Emma' with a self penned song and 'Mez' with an inter-cultural piece of work.

Late on the final day we caught up with writer Stephen Jeffreys, who talked about special memories of the NSDF and revealed 2010 would be his last day.

Then we give you a flavour of the fun and games of the final evening, with the awards ceremony.
