Spending choice for estate residents

RESIDENTS of one of North Yorkshire's biggest housing estates are to have their say on how a £10,000 pot is spent to improve the community.

Locals of Eastfield, near Scarborough, turned out in force for last year's Voice Your Choice event to help decide how to spend much of the cash raised from the council tax precept for Eastfield Parish Council.

They can again have the final say on which community projects are funded at the event on Saturday, July 17, at Eastfield Community Centre, which will also be attended by councillors.

Eastfield Parish Council chairman Brian Simpson said 2009/10 crime figures released by North Yorkshire Police showed a drop of 23 per cent in overall crime across Eastfield.

He added: "Voice Your Choice and greater partnership working in Eastfield between community groups and statutory organisations has played a significant part in this which shows that a united community can make a difference."

Any organisation seeking to deliver a community project in Eastfield can download an application form from the Eastfield Parish Council website. Or they can contact Chris Parsons on 01723 860751 or Coun Simpson on 01723 585972
