Splash of colour for inner city landscape

Six-year-old Charlie Daniels plays among the wildflowers growing on land off Bridge Road, Holbeck, Leeds.

The neglected part of the inner city has been transformed into a green space and wildlife haven complete with wildflower meadows and fruit trees. Holbeck Urban Village and Holbeck itself are within a mile of the city centre and have strong ties to the city's industrial past.

There are deprived areas and pockets of wasteland remain alongside successful regeneration projects. In a Leeds Council initiative, these neglected areas of land have now been turned into a "green corridor" which has connected Beeston and Holbeck with the city centre with an improved footpath.

Local groups including Holbeck in Bloom, Holbeck Elderly Aid, the Cupboard Youth Project and Ingram Road Primary School have all been involved in the development of the project.
