Sponsored powerboat will fly the flag for city
BUSINESSES have raised £11,000 towards sponsoring a powerboat to represent Hull in an international sporting event.
The UK leg of the P1 SuperStock Championship – “the Grand Prix of the Sea” – starts in the city on June 1 and June 2. The boat, which will be decked out in a livery incorporating the names of sponsors – will travel to races in Torquay, Plymouth, Cardiff and Eastbourne. It will also be displayed abroad.
A flurry of fundraising began on Twitter after organisers told a Bondholders’ business breakfast meeting in Hull that for £20,000, a “spare boat” could be theirs. Business Springboard, a networking organisation, hopes to build up the event to promote the city.
