Sponsored swim to save baths

A SPONSORED swim will be taking place at Bramley Baths, in Leeds, tomorrow to raise money and support the campaign to save the historic baths from closure.

The Labour MP for Leeds West Rachel Reeves will be joined by local schoolchildren, from Bramley Primary School, Bramley St Peter’s and Whitecote Primary School and the director of the Victorian Society, Dr Ian Dungavell. Cash raised from the event will go towards improving the baths and to aid a potential asset transfer to switch the running of the pool from the council to the community.

Campaigners have won cash to help the baths to run on reduced hours until next March but its long-term future is in doubt.

Ms Reeves said: “I am really pleased that the schools are taking part in this swim, this campaign has had strong support from local teachers, schoolchildren and their parents from the very beginning and they have made a huge difference.

“It is also great to have Dr Ian Dungavell on board.

“The Victorian Society does excellent work to promote and raise awareness of historic pools like Bramley Baths and campaign to save them from closure.”
