Called Seizing the Opportunities of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games, it has been organised by Scarborough Council in partnership with Yorkshire Gold and North Yorkshire Sport.

Portfolio member for strategic planning and regeneration Coun Derek Bastiman said it was a great chance for the local sporting sector to find the opportunities being created as part of the Games. "The seminar will highlight how inspirational the Games can be and help identify how they can be used as a catalyst to help local organisations maximise the opportunities available," he added.

Session One in the afternoon is aimed at head teachers, PE staff and school sports partnership managers plus co-ordinators together with leisure professionals, including local authority leisure officers, sports development officers and local councillors. Cram will set the scene and outline some of the opportunities created by the 2012 Olympics, before Yorkshire Gold – set up to ensure the region benefits from the games.

He will also outline the various sporting programmes emulating from the Games including "Get Set" a programme for schools and "Inspire Mark" that uses the power of the Games to inspire people to take part in related activities.
