Spotlight on climate change

Some of York's iconic landmarks will be plunged into darkness on Saturday evening as the city shows its support for the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Earth Hour.

From 8.30pm-9.30pm lighting on parts of the city walls and the Mansion House will be switched off to help raise awareness of global warming. Aviva and York Minster will be joining the council in turning lighting off to mark the hour. The WWF is hoping that a billion people across the world will join the big switch-off.
