Spotlight on energy plant set to replace the Tinsley Towers

PEOPLE have been invited to a public information event where they can find out more about the £120m Blackburn Meadows biomass energy plant, which is currently under construction on the site of the old Tinsley Towers.

At the session next Wednesday, February 15, people can meet staff from E.ON who are behind the development.

The meeting will run from 3pm to 7pm at the Tinsley Green Community Centre in Norborough Road.

A spokesman for E.ON said that the plant would create enough energy to power 40,000 homes every year, by converting recycled waste wood into electricity.

They added: “E.ON will use UK sourced recycled waste wood to power the plant and, as far as is possible, will use local companies throughout the construction.

“It is expected that the site will create around 30 full-time jobs within the local area once operational in mid-2014.

“E.ON will put in place a community benefits fund worth up to £25,000 a year to support local projects throughout the lifetime of the plant, enhance the appearance and biodiversity of the area through landscaping and construct an onsite visitor centre, which will show how energy is produced as well as highlighting the industrial heritage of the site.”
