Spud fun at showground

HUNDREDS of youngsters rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty for a potato growing day at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

More than 250 children from 11 different North Yorkshire primary schools took part in the event, organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and the Potato Council.

They included Kitty Denny and William Gibb both six, from St Martins Primary School, Ampleforth, pictured having fun while preparing to plant a seed potato to take back to school to watch it grow. The youngsters were given a talk on mass potato production by a farmer.
