Spy fans’ chance to be shaken and stirred by auction

JAMES Bond fans were given a chance to get their hands on actor Daniel Craig’s trunks yesterday as his swimwear went on sale in a charity auction.

The famous sky blue tight shorts, worn as he emerged from a glistening sea in Casino Royale, are expected to fetch up to £5,000 in the sale of 007 memorabilia being staged by Christie’s.

The Bond items are being sold as part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the film series about the agent.

It also coincides with preparations for the launch of the latest movie, Skyfall, which will make its world premiere next month.

Craig’s trunks, made by underwear brand La Perla, helped win over fans when he made his debut in the role in 2006.

It was inspired by a similar scene in the first Bond film, Dr No, in which Ursula Andress appeared from the waves in a white bikini.

Also being sold are props, models and costumes been used over the years in the celebrated movies.

They range from the Aston Martin six-litre V12 DBS which was used in Quantum Of Solace – estimated to go for up to £150,000 – to the tarot cards used by Jane Seymour’s character Solitaire in Live And Let Die.

The latest film – shot in London, Scotland, Turkey, and China and directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes – will be the 23rd in the film franchise, which is the longest running in the world, although the spy made his first appearance in author Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel Casino Royale.

All the lots will be on display at Christie’s South Kensington sale room until October 5, which has been designated global James Bond Day.

The online auction continues until October 8 at www.christies.com/bond, raising money for various charities including Unicef.
