Stadium lights the way for TV

NEW floodlights are to go up at the KC Stadium to meet the needs of international broadcasters.

The floodlighting towers will be four metres (13ft) higher then they are now, but consultants claim it will have “minimal” effect on residents, with the nearest living 300m away on Anlaby Road.

It comes after the Premier League issued new regulations to improve lighting on all sides of the pitch and to avoid flicker.

There have been no objections to the proposals from the Super Stadium Management Company which are being heard by Hull Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The existing wishbone gantries will be replaced with higher ones, extra lights put under the East Stand and more lights on the West Stand gantry. There will be two rows of extra lights below roof level in the Southwest and Northwest corners of the stadium.

Officers have given the scheme the their backing, saying: “it seems reasonable to conclude due to the distances to houses, the impacts will not be materially different or detrimental.”

The KC Stadium, which was completed in 2002, at a cost of £44m, is named after the stadium’s sponsors, telecommunications provider KC.
