Staff challenged to pay for education

Students at a Yorkshire university have written a letter to senior cabinet members and their own vice chancellor calling on them to pay for the higher education which they received free of charge.

The Leeds University Union is protesting about the expected rise in tuition fees as a result of the Browne Review which called for a cap to be lifted. Leeds University vice chancellor Prof Michael Arthur said cuts to university teaching budgets could mean fees rise to about 7,000 to 8,000 – compared with the current 3,290 a year.
