Star expecting – and this time it’s not you

Robbie Williams is to become a father, as he announced his wife Ayda is pregnant.

The 38-year-old singer – whose albums include I’ve Been Expecting You – said he and Ayda cried when they saw the scans.

Williams, who rejoined Take That to tour last year, announced the news on his blog.

He said: “I’ve been keeping a secret from you all – me and Ayda are going to be mummy and daddy this year.”

The couple tied the knot in August 2010.

His light-hearted blog entry continued: “We had sex – it works. We’ve seen scans and cried. Looked at babies in commercials and teared up...

“The nursery is already planned. Basically I’m in love with a little person growing in mummy’s belly – and can’t wait to be a daddy. Crying now.”

He signed off “Roberto, Mum and Little Bump.”

Williams has long talked of wanting to become a father and became an ambassador for children’s charity Unicef just over a decade ago.

The singer focused his affections on his pet dogs prior to finding love with Ayda Field.

Friends and fans offered their congratulations today, and his friend actor and TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes said how difficult it had been to keep quiet about the pregnancy.

In a message on Twitter, he said: “That’s the biggest secret I’ve ever kept. So proud of my mate and Ayda – they are gonna be amazing parents.”
