A CHARITY project to showcase the best of Yorkshire millinery talent is to be staged in the grand venue of Castle Howard, near Malton, next month.

The Spectacular Hats event is the first of its kind and is already causing a stir in the fashion world.

As word of the event spread, three London milliners have also asked to take part, citing their Yorkshire connections, including Royal milliner Rachel Trevor Morgan and Karen Henrikson, who has made hats for the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips. One of the organisers, Sharon Bainbridge, millinery tutor at Leeds College of Art, said it will be a good opportunity to show off their talented alumni.

She said: “I’ve met some inspirational women, many who had gone on to set up their own millinery businesses. This seemed the perfect opportunity to really showcase their myriad of talents and highlight the wonders of the hat.” Spectacular Hats takes place at Castle Howard on May 9 at 7pm.

Tickets are £20 from Jill Hopkins on [email protected] or 01653 669641.
