Star Wars: Leeds revealed as country’s Jedi Knight capital

Leeds is officially the Jedi capital of the country.

Space-mad fans are counting the seconds down to the day when the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens box office movie lands in cinemas this month.

And it has been revealed that Leeds has more than enough light-sabre wielding Jedi Knights to rival the likes of Master Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.

In the latest government Census in 2011, almost 3,000 people in the city stated their religion as Jedi Knight - more than any other local authority area in the country.

A new interactive map, created by Esri UK, shows the number of people who said they were Jedis across the country and the region they’re from.

Leeds, where a total of 2,812 people put down Jedi Knight as their as their religion, was followed by the Brighton and Hove local authority which recorded 2,636.

A massive 176,632 people in England and Wales said their religion was Jedi in the latest Census.

It was the top Other Religion in the census, beating Pagan (56,620), Spiritualist (39,061), Agnostic (32,382) and Atheist (29,267).

The new Star Wars film is due to be released in cinemas across the UK on December 17.
