Stay away, police tell troublemakers

Police have warned potential troublemakers to stay away from Hull City’s high-profile match with West Ham on Saturday.

The Tigers are flying high in the Championship play-off places after a succession of wins under manager Nigel Pearson and the match is all-ticket because of anticipated increased demand.

Police commander for the game, Chief Inspector Andy Oliver said: “No tickets will be available at the KC Stadium, so my advice would be if you don’t have a ticket, don’t come to the game.

“I envisage the vast majority of supporters will be attending to cheer on their team, however to ensure everyone’s safety the match will be well policed in line with the crowd size and football intelligence, to ensure that anyone intent on causing trouble does not adversely affect the enjoyment for the majority.”

As well as a highly visible police presence, officers will be looking out for anyone with a football banning order. Police also say anyone caught trying to take fireworks into the stadium faces arrest and prosecution.

Chief Insp Oliver added: “The message to those individuals intent on causing trouble is stay away or face being arrested.”
