Steam gala in holiday mood

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is on track to bring a little bit of the West Country to Yorkshire. The railway has chosen to recreate the romance of the classic Somerset & Dorset (S&D) line for its Autumn Steam Gala taking place this weekend. The gala's star attraction, 34070 Manston, pictured, is one of a class that often hauled holiday expresses to the South Coast in the 1950s.

The Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 engine takes its name from the wartime airfield in Kent and is normally based in Dorset.

The much heralded A1 Pacific engine 60163 Tornado is also to feature at the gala. Picture: Gerard Binks.
