Step-father attacked trying to protect son from violent gang of youths at Guiseley station

A 23-year-old man and his step-father, aged 46, were at Guiseley station when they saw one of a group of about 13 teenagers on the tracks.

The younger man was surrounded by the youths – aged 15 to 18 – after warning the boy that he could be in danger.

British Transport Police said he was punched to the ground. When his step-father tried to intervene he was also attacked, suffering a broken ankle.

Detective Constable David Bentley, of BTP, said: “This was a totally unprovoked and uncalled for attack which left one of the victims with a serious injury requiring hospital treatment.

“The man and his son were only attempting to advise one of the member of the group about his dangerous actions and certainly shouldn’t have been subjected to this unacceptable and violent behaviour on the rail network and we are determined to find those responsible.

“We have followed a number of lines of enquiry so far but believe that there were people on the platform who may have seen the attack. If that was you I’d urge you to please get in touch.”

The incident happened at about 8.15pm on December 18.
