Step forward for crossing campaign

Campaigners for a zebra crossing to help elderly shoppers in Bradford are a step closer to their goal.

Almost 200 people signed a petition requesting the crossing near the Odsal Road and Holroyd Hill junction close to the Quarry Dene retirement complex in Wibsey.

Members of Bradford Council’s south area committee will be asked to pave the way for the scheme to be built as advertised when they meet on Thursday.

Ward councillor Lynne Smith, said: “We have been pressing for this crossing for some time and we are delighted it is finally getting closer to happening.”

Coun Smith added: “This will improve independence for anyone with mobility difficulties, as I know from personal experience.”

Most of the people who signed the petition were residents at the Quarry Dene retirement complex who wanted to get safely across the busy road to the nearby shops.

No objections have been received to the proposal so far but the committee members will have the opportunity to look at the details more closely and give their views at Thursday’s meeting.

Councillors will also be asked to notify the lead petitioner as appropriate.
