Still life at 70

Artist Ashley Jackson in the Great Hall at Temple Newsam House where an exhibition of his work is being held to mark his 70th birthday.

Jackson celebrated yesterday's milestone with a preview of his watercolour exhibition at the Leeds venue where work from his hero, JMW Turner, has been displayed.

Jackson's exhibition, Power and the Passion, features paintings personally chosen from his private collection and excerpts from his sketchbooks throughout the years.

The paintings are returning to Yorkshire from the Mall Galleries in London. The exhibition opens today and runs until May 8, 2011.
