Still no cure for nerve cell disease

There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis but many hope stem cell research could hold the key – although not the type offered by disgraced Dr Robert Trossel.

MS is an auto-immune disease of the central nervous system. An estimated 100,000 people in the UK suffer from the condition, which attacks the fatty insulation around nerve fibres known as myelin.

Although there is no cure, a range of treatments is available which can relieve symptoms and may slow down the progression of the disease.
