Stolen motorbike breaks cyclist's leg

A CYCLIST aged 24 suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a stolen motorcycle being ridden on the wrong side of the road.

The accident happened when the motorbike was being ridden by two men on the wrong side of the carriageway in Beverley Road, Hull, just before 6pm on Wednesday.

The bike, which had been stolen earlier that day in Barham Road, was being ridden along Clough Road before the riders, who were not wearing helmets, mounted the pavement and turned into Beverley Road.

A man aged 27 who was riding the motorcycle suffered facial fractures and both he and the cyclist were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The pillion passenger, also a man aged 27, ran from the scene but was later arrested and remained in police custody yesterday.

The collision, which happened near the junction with Beresford Avenue, caused the closure of the roads for more than three hours.

Police would like to speak to any witnesses, in particular a woman who narrowly missed being hit by the motorcycle as it passed the Sainsbury’s store at the Beverley Road junction with Clough Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 6060 222.
