Speculation of an imminent announcement began after mystery posters showing the quartet’s lemon logo were spotted around Manchester.

After 562 days of Twitter silence, the group used the social media site to share a picture of a poster outlining their upcoming performances.

The group will take to the stage at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on June 17 and 18, and then headline the T in the Park festival at Strathallan Castle, Scotland, on July 8.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale on Friday at 9.30am.

Fronted by Ian Brown, the Stone Roses are often hailed as the inspiration for a generation of bands.

They made a triumphant comeback in 2012, having announced in 2011 that they were reforming after an acrimonious split 15 years earlier.

The reunion was one many fans thought would never happen after a bitter fallout.

They had long met rumours of a revival with assurances that the band would not reform.

But they eventually buried the hatchet in 2011, agreeing a series of festival dates and a three-night stint topping the bill at their own mini-festival in Manchester’s Heaton Park.

The show was the band’s first large-scale show in the UK since the band fell apart in 1996.
