Stone throwing vandals damage train

THE window of a train was damaged as it travelled through Cutsyke, near Castleford.

Stones were thrown at the train, which caused damage to the outside of a carriage and caused one window to crack.

It happened just after 6.20pm on Thursday, as a Leeds to Knottingley service passed through the Cutsyke area just after departing Castleford station.

"Throwing stones at fast moving trains is an incredibly irresponsible thing to do," said PC Peter Shaw, of British Transport Police.

"In past incidents we have seen passengers and members of rail staff being injured as a result of stone throwing. Fortunately, on this occasion the window didn't smash and no one was hurt."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact transport police on 0800 40 50 40.
