Stranded youngsters 'miss their Xboxes'

SCHOOLCHILDREN trapped on a trip to Spain by the air shutdown not be flying back to Yorkshire until Monday.

The 22 pupils and three teachers from Rossett High School, in Harrogate, were due to fly from Barcelona to Manchester Airport on Thursday afternoon, after travelling to Spain to take part in rugby and football events.

But despite being grounded over the weekend, head teacher Pat Hunter, says the children, who are all aged 12 or 13, are enjoying their extended stay.

She said: "Because they are such a large group we have to wait longer than other passengers but they have been put up in a hotel outside the city with a swimming pool and near the beach.

"The children are split, most of them are happy that they have four more days of holiday and don't have to go to school on Monday but some are missing their parents – and their Xboxes.

"The teachers have been absolutely brilliant, I think they are treating this as a little bit of an adventure, and so have the children.

"When they were stuck at the airport they were busy organising games outside all through the day.

"Apparently the children have been quite a hit with the other people waiting at the airport and I am very proud how they have all conducted themselves."
