Street stabbing shuts road for rush hour

One of Sheffield's busiest routes was closed off during the morning rush hour yesterday after a man was stabbed on Bramall Lane.

Police said the man, in his 20s, was the victim of a “serious assault” at about 7.30pm on Tuesday. The victim was taken to the Northern General Hospital with suspected stab wounds after the attack, and detained in hospital overnight. He is said to have staggered into the Earl of Arundel and Surrey pub, on the corner of Bramall Lane and Queens Road, to raise the alarm after being assaulted. The victim’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Bramall Lane was reopened to traffic at about 10.45am yesterday. Picture: Chris Lawton.
