Street-thug teenager locked up for 32 months

A TEENAGER who assaulted one youth and then robbed his friend of his phone at knifepoint when he tried to call the police for help, has been sent to a young offender institution for two years eight months.

Jamie Lee was passing by his two victims who were in a group of four 16-year-olds in Hightown Road, Cleckheaton, on the evening of September 4 last year when he suddenly approached one and asked him what he was looking at.

He then punched the teenager in his face, causing his nose to bleed, and repeating his question, Rukhshanda Hussain prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court yesterday.

He then produced a knife and held it towards the youth's chest, saying three times: "Do you want to get stabbed."

A girl with Lee told him to "stop it", telling the youth to forget it and run, but Lee, having seen one of the youth's friends on a mobile phone calling the police, then switched his attention to him and demanded the phone.

When the youth refused, Lee said: "Give me your phone, do you want me to stab you?" and was given it.

Lee, 19, also known as Jamie Lee Hardisty, of George Street, Cleckheaton, admitted robbery and common assault.

Sentencing Lee, Judge Jennifer Kershaw, QC, said he was the aggressor.
