Strong showing from 2012 Olympic hopefuls

OLYMPIC medal hopefuls for London 2012 were out in force at the show.

With only two years to go until the start of the Games, visitors had a chance to applaud our Olympic hopefuls as they bid to put Yorkshire on the map at London 2012. Ten athletes from a variety of disciplines took part in a procession to the Welcome to Yorkshire stand.

They included Ben Swain, the Sheffield diver, who competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and has won eight gold medals

from various domestic and international events, and his partner Nick Baker, also from Sheffield.

Ben Pipes, from Hull, the captain of the GB Volleyball squad, was another of the sporting stars, along with Claire Cashmore, the Leeds Paralympic swimmer and world record holder.

As well as appearing at the Welcome to Yorkshire stand, some of the athletes later took to the catwalk as part of the Great Yorkshire's fashion parade, fast becoming a star attraction at the event.
